Pine Plains is located in the northern portion of Dutchess County,
just below Columbia County. The hamlets of Pine Plains include Bethel,
Pine Plains, Hammertown, and Pulver Corners. The town’s name
originates from early deeds, which included descriptions of "the
Pine Plains". Just off of Route 6, the Pine Plains hamlet invites
exploration of off-route sites, shops, and restaurants. The tiny
yellow building is the Stephen Eno Law offices, which has been in
use as a professional office since 1814. The stone Wilber Clock
Tower was dedicated in 1920 to Dr. Henry C. Wilber, a local physician,
and is a familiar landmark.
There are several churches in Pine Plains. The oldest is the United
Methodist Church, built in 1835. There is also Saint Anthony’s
Rectory, the United Methodist Church. You will also find the Gallatin
Reformed Church Hall and the First United Presbyterian Church.
